Simple Simpleclone Fly

Tied by Steve Farrar during the February activity night.  This is a great small baitfish pattern.

Materials

  • Hook: Varivas #2 990
  • Ultra Fine Mono
  • Angel hair and unique hair blend (White)
  • Angel hair and unique hair blend (Tan)
  • Kodak Photo Flow
  • GE Household silicon
  • Small sticker eyes

Instructions

1. Place hook in vise, create a thread base by wrapping 10-12 wraps of thread around the hook.

2. Place the angel hair blend (white) positioned 2/3 forward of the hook. Make several wraps a bit behind the eye of the hook.

3. Place a small bunch of angel hair blend (tan) positioned 2/3 forward of the hook. Make several wraps a bit behind the eye of the hook.

4. Fold the forward 2/3 angel hair over the body of the fly towards the bend of the hook. The folding of the angel hair blend can be done evenly by pushing the casing (remove the ink assembly) of a ball point pen over the eye of the hook.

5. Make several wraps just behind the eye of the hook and whip finish. This will hold the blended material in place.

6. Pull the body material firmly behind the hook and wrap with a twist tie to manage the material while applying the silicon.

7. Encapsulate the body material starting just behind the eye of the hook, to the bend with the silicon. Rotating your rotary vise while applying silicon rearward is the easiest way to do so.

8. Dab your fingers with Kodak Photo Flow and pat the silicon into shape.

9. Remove twist tie by slipping off the back of the fly.

10. Attach small sticker eyes.

11. Pat the silicon to the final shape of the fly.
